About Victorian Majolica: 1849 – 1900
Known for its brilliantly colored glazes and classical and naturalistic designs, this vibrant earthenware was introduced by English china maker Mintons in mid-1800s and featured at the Great Exhibition of 1851, also known as the Crystal Palace Exhibition. This style of pottery was based on Mediterranean Majolica pottery developed during the Renaissance Period by Moorish potters from the Spanish island of Majorca.
