Vintage Japanese Chaney Shard Pendant

Bits of broken dishes found on beaches are known as chaneys. The pieces often wash ashore from 19th Century shipwrecks. This piece was recovered on Yakushima Island beach in Japan. It is believed the name chaney evolved from people using the pieces for games and calling them them “china money” or “chiney money” or “chaney.”
