My largest and last show of the year opens on Thursday in Chicago; and this year, I decided to preview some of the new pieces to you BEFORE the event starts.
I want to let you know a few of my favorites and what makes them special. If you see something you like, you can even purchase it… without having to make a trip to Chicago 😉 Just realize that on Wednesday evening, I’ll be taking these pieces out of the online store and moving them to the One of a Kind Show and Sale… so if you want one, you’ll have to act.
I first worked with Majolica Ware several years ago when I acquired a piece that once belonged the Katharine Hepburn (sorry, no pieces from that plate remain, but there’s a photo on the right). I recently recovered a few broken Majolica plates… one in particular has a gorgeous deep red and caramel glaze that I haven’t seen before.
More about Majolica Ware: Known for its brilliantly colored glazes and classical and naturalistic designs, this vibrant earthenware was introduced by English china maker Mintons in mid-1800s and featured at the Great Exhibition of 1851, also known as the Crystal Palace Exhibition. This style of pottery was based on Mediterranean Majolica pottery developed during the Renaissance Period by Moorish potters from the Spanish island of Majorca.
